An afterthought heel is a method of knitting socks that allows you to essentially knit the entire sock as a continuous tube, then go back and do the heel at the end. In this workshop we'll cover two ways of doing an afterthought heel.

Level: Step Two Intermediate-Advanced. You already know how to knit in the round.

Homework:

Yarn: Small amounts of worsted weight yarn

Needles: Needles that match your yarn (around 5 mm) in whichever method you prefer for working in the round.

Swatch #1: Cast on 30 stitches and join for working in the round. Knit 8 rounds. Bind off.

Swatch #2: Cast on 30 stitches and join for working in the round. Knit 4 rounds. Leave these stitches live on the needles.

Bring along:

• both of the homework swatches

• a spare needle in the same size or smaller

• some scrap yarn in the same weight that you used for your swatch

• scissors
